London Elite Wowed By Jaw Dropping International Fashion Talent

Friday 17th September saw the opening night of LGN Events ‘A La Mode’ LFW show at the Charing Cross Hotel. Press, buyers and the general public were blown away with the standard of designs exhibited at the show.

The evening opened with a jaw dropping entrance by Dubai based designer Furne One and his coveted brand Amato Couture.

Kristin Knox, the Clothes Whisperer, was seen snapping away as models entered and excited the runway in intricately carved wooden wedges and sculptured carvings adorning the models’ heads, enhancing the beautifully crafted nude shade dresses which sensuously clung to their bodies. The horse headpiece finale was an absolute show stopper and saw the faces of the audience light up.

Berit New York was next to grace the catwalk and her Retro-futurism collection had several nods to a 50’s era. This stunning period inspired collection was followed by Pakistani label KMH Couture who showcased a mixture of menswear and womenswear.

The boys were not missed out either as Project Catwalks’ Tom Lipop presented his Mr Lipop menswear collection. The collection was described by fashion writer Tor Brierley as a ‘great collection that had a really androgynous feel to it; slouchy tailoring that seemed perfect for a modern woman, as well as a man.’

Z-Mode was next up to provide the audience with a taste of Africa. With celebs such as Rachel Christie as an avid follower, Victoria showed that her collection is versatile with a feminine feel.

The show continued with Malaysia’s finest Jonathan Liang who stole the hearts of many with his draping effects, structured shoulders and gold metallic breast plates. Jessica Hind from MP Magazine commented after the show, ‘I wanted every piece!’ .

The final designer of the evening was Nikolo Bertok. Nikolo’s collection featured mens and womenswear; the last four looks of which dazzled everyone as the lights dimmed and glowsticks were at the ready for guests, including one of Bertok’s biggest fans Andrea Faithful, to get fully involved in the light based pieces which used the latest El-Wire light technology.

The whole night was a treat for everyone in attendance who received not only the chance to view these up and coming designers first hand but also receive complimentary treatments from Cucumba therapists and a goody bag containing fabulous Veneziana tights provided by the British based website It socks.com

5 mins with designer Victoria Rangayah of new label Z-Mode…

1. What inspired you to enter the fashion world?
My mother's old clothes was my first point of inspiration to become a fashion designer. After cutting up few of her dresses and later on few of my husband's shirts I have decided that It’s time to study fashion.

2. What inspires your designs and how do you acquire your creative edge?
I absolutely love men's suiting fabrics, I get so excited walking in the menswear section in department stores and try to imagine how these fabrics would work in my designs. I love mixing different textures and shapes, and very often for my inspiration I turn back to Africa. This culture rich continent is perfect ‘food’ for my creative mind!

3. Has your experience in the fashion industry matched your perception of the fashion world?
I am still a newcomer to the fashion industry and I believe I still have a lot to learn, but I must say I didn't expect it to be easy so I’m ready for a challenge!

4. You have a wealth of fashion experiences behind you and from these experiences what advice would you give to other rising fashion designers?
The only advice I could ever give to anyone is - be proactive! If you want to achieve something - go and get it! Don’t be scared to be rejected, there is a door for you that's waiting to be opened - just keep knocking!

5. What makes your designs different yet appealing to your target market/buyer?Who is the z-mode customer?
My designs are edgy but yet not over designed and quite commercial. The sharp lines mixed with flowing silhouettes, hint of tailoring, these are the z-mode style staples.
z-mode clothes are targeted to over 25 years old customers, however we do have styles that can be suitable to younger girls too. Strong minded, confident, sophisticated - those are the characteristics of z-mode customer.

6. If you had just one word to describe fashion what would it be?
Art

International designer Victoria Rangayah to present her empowering designs during London Fashion Week

The ‘A La Mode’ London Fashion Week September 2010 Catwalk welcomes another exhilarating addition to the fashion world. Gracing the catwalk will be design college graduate Victoria Rangayah’s beautifully crafted collection from her label Z-Mode.

Lithuanian born Rangayah spent five years living in South Africa and studying fashion at LISOF Fashion School. She went onto establish Z-Mode after working as a denim designer for a manufacturing company. Rangayah has participated in several fashion design competitions including Bridex and Bridal Africa which served as the platform for her to publicise her skills and talent. This led to her being nominated for the prestigious South African ‘Fashion Design Merchandise Award.’ Many of Rangayah’s creations have received exposure in international magazines including Elle, Style Plus (Lithuania) and LABB Fashion (UK).

Her passion for foreign culture, art and music are a strong design inspiration and Z-Mode is a true depiction of that. Inspired by the ‘rainbow nation’ Rangayah witnessed whilst living in South Africa, her designs are a concoction of interestingly opposite textures; “I like to make women feel feminine, elegant but at the same time empowered. Therefore I always try to keep the balance between strong lines and flowing silhouettes and ruffles…” The amalgamation of a feminine vibe expressed through masculine shapes is the essence of Rangayah’s label.

The ‘A La Mode’ Catwalk will take place at the lavish Charing Cross Hotel located on the Strand on Friday 17th September 2010, the first day of one of fashions’ most anticipated events; London Fashion Week 2010.

Attracting press and fashion industry alike, Victoria will be presenting her highly anticipated designs at the “A La Mode” show from 7.30pm.
